How To Set The Time In A Citizen 6870 Movement

The Citizen 6870 Movement is a quartz analog movement which feature a variety of functions. It comes with eight modes consisting of time, alarm 1, alarm 2, chronograph, 0-position check, timer, local time and calendar modes. The Citizen 6870 Movement is a vintage movement and is out of production.

Basically all models with the Citizen 6870 movement will have four buttons, it doesn’t have any crown to drive the hands. The eight modes of the movement is featured at the sub-dial at the bottom. The hand in our image below is indicating TME which means that the main hands are showing the time.

After replacing the battery in this movement, an ALL RESET and 0-Positioning must be done in order for the watch to work properly.

How to do the ALL RESET, 0-POSITIONING and time setting.

First of all lets label the our buttons as TOP-RIGHT (TR), TOP-LEFT (TL), BOTTOM-RIGHT (BR) and BOTTOM-LEFT (BL) to make it easier to explain.

– Pull out the BR button.
– Press the other three buttons simultaneously for 3-4 seconds and then release them.
– Push back the BR button.
– Now press the BR button until the hand in the lower dial points to “0”. All the hands should move to 12. If they don’t then we should align them by doing the following:
    – Pull out the BR button
    – Press and release the TR button continuously (or hold it) until the second hand reach 12 o’clock.
    – Press and release the TL button continuously (or hold it) until the auxiliary hand reach 12 o’clock.
    – Press and release the BL button continuously (or hold it) until the other hands reach 12 o’clock.
    – Push back the BR button.
Now we’re ready to set up the time!
– Press and release the BR button until the hand in the lower sub-dial indicates TME.
– Pull out the BR button.
– Press the TL and BL button to move the time forward or backward to set the correct time (pay attention to the middle sub-dial to know if time is a.m or p.m).
– Push back the BR button.
